Remove default iTunes genres

Customising iTunes Music Type:

The "genre" drop-down list that iTunes offers (under "get info") has too many choices; some are completely unwanted. Here is a simple way to make that choice more suitable for your specific taste.
  • Close iTunes v12 program
  • Using NotePad++, edit both files:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\en_GB.lproj\Localizable.strings
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\en.lproj\Localizable.strings
  • Check around line nr 13'995 and look out for the section labelled:
    • /* ===== Genres ===== */
      ...
      /* ===== HTTP Utilities Strings ===== */
  • Delete undesired lines (genres)
  • Save "Localizable.strings" files
  • Restart iTunes program

Note:

  • To remove exclamation points from your iTunes library, hold the Shift key while launching iTunes to bring up the library selection dialog. Select “Choose Library” then click on file “C:\Users\d022519\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl”.
