The James Webb Space Telescope has done it again! Scientists announced today that they have discovered the most distant known galaxy. The galaxy called JADES-GS-z14-0 existed just 290 million years after the big bang, and its light traveled for 13.5 billion years to reach us.
This beats the previous record holder, announced in December 2022, which dated back to less than 400 million years after the big bang, when the universe was only 2% of its current age.
